New Apartment Unveiling: Bathroom

Now that the apartment is finally settled, I'm excited to share it with all of you! I'm sure my mom is happy too - I've made her wait to see pictures until it's all done. Not that my place is that exciting - I didn't paint any of the walls beyond the basic apartment off-white, even though I could have, but I do think I have a unique sense of style and an amazing ability to re-purpose and reuse furniture! As I'm sharing my spaces, I'll try to point out the new uses for things.

Today I'm sharing my bathroom with you. So without further ado, click below to see the bathroom unveiling!

While I know a lot of people aren't keen on the idea of open storage, I actually really like it. I had open storage in my last apartment out of necessity and in a studio apartment, it's become even more important. Closed storage needs to be used for things that you really don't want laying around - namely cleaning products which could make the cats sick - so everything else has a visible home.

I hung these shelves - which used to hold food and dishes in the last place! - right up against the mirror. I love the effect that it created. It's as if my bathroom is twice as big (although, it's also as if my clutter is twice as messy...). The shelves are organized so everything I use every day is within easy reach - sounds so simple but it's amazing!

With the towels right out on the counter, visitors never have to go through my one closed cabinet - full of cleaning supplies, extra toilet paper, and other non-pretty things - to find what they are looking for.

The best part of this apartment (ok, maybe that's an exaggeration) is the little vanity area under the bathroom counter. In our house it's used for the litter box. Again, that's a necessity in a studio - so glad it's not out in the main living space! I hung a curtain over that space so visitors don't have to, ahem - do their business, while looking right at the litter box. Unfortunately, my little baby Charlie isn't exactly smart and can't figure out how to use the litter box with the curtain closed without peeing on it. So we leave the curtain open and just close it when company comes over.

I was able to reuse my towels and shower curtain from the last place even though I stuck with the neutral apartment paint. I love the look of crisp white against the little bit of color - so glad I bought this shower curtain two apartments ago for $5! I also reused the pictures I had hanging in my last place - perfect spot for them.

My actual favorite thing about the bathroom (not the litter box!) is this hanger. My sister made these hangers for all of the girls in the wedding party. We took a pretty cool picture of all of our dresses together on hanging on our customized hangers prior to the wedding. As soon as she told me what she was making, I knew how I wanted to use it after the wedding.  I hung my robe on it so that every single day I see the hanger and think about my sister and her beautiful wedding.  Sentimental, I know, but I love it!

So there you go!  What do you think?  Stay tuned next Tuesday for a peak into the bedroom area.

  1. I like it! You did a great job fitting everything in. Its small but very organized. I like open storage too. If everything looks like it has a place, like yours does, then I don't think it looks cluttered.
